The Impossible Military
How did the military of Israel become so strong after being gone for almost 1800 years?
It is not possible for the military of a country be completely wiped off the face of the Earth, and then return as one of the strongest militaries on Earth after 1800 years. Yet this is exactly what happened to the military of Israel. That is why I say that Israel has the Impossible Military.
The Jews in the land of Israel became a military force that was surprisingly strong for its size after the Greek Empire conquered the Persian Empire. In 167 BC, under the Maccabees, the Jews in the land of Israel began a seven war to defeat and drive out the Seleucid Empire, the mightiest empire on Earth at the time. They won this war against all odds because they understood that resistance is essential.
The Jews of Israel continued to be a surprisingly strong military force for the next three hundred years.
They handed the Roman Empire the worst defeat in its entire history at the battle of Beth Horon in 66 AD, at the beginning of the Great Revolt. Despite the infighting that doomed the efforts of the Jews, the Romans were not able to destroy Jerusalem in 70 AD, even after they quadrupled their original forces. After that, it still took the Romans three more years to bring about the final defeat of the Jewish rebels at Masada in 73 AD.
Then the Jews raised another much larger and better organized army under Bar Kochba. Bar Kochba began the Bar Kochba Revolt in 132 AD at Modi'in, the hometown of the Maccabees.
The Romans were forced to pull in six legions to fight the Jews in the land of Israel from Europe, Africa, and Asia. They were then forced to pull in parts of another six legions to supplement their already sizable army. At the peak of the Bar Kochba war, the Romans had about half of their entire army fighting this Jewish army in the land of Israel.
This was the costliest war to the Romans in their entire history. There were more people killed in the Bar Kochba Revolt than the American Civil War, and it rivaled World War I, when compared to the number of people living on the Earth when it occurred.
By the time Betar fell in 135 AD, the Jews had lost 580,000 soldiers in fighting, along with similar numbers of people from other causes. The Romans lost at least as many soldiers, and three of the legions that they had sent in to fight the war were either decimated, or so destroyed that they had to disband. This caused the Romans to bring an end to Judaea that same year, so they would not have to fight against any more Jewish armies in the land of Israel.
The Jews in the land of Israel did not have a strong army for almost 1800 years after that.
The Jews in the land of Israel did try to throw off the yoke of the Romans in May of 350 AD. They were quickly crushed, and the revolt against Caesar Gallus was over by 352 AD. Shortly after that, in 390 AD, the Byzantines took control of the land of Israel.
The Jews in the land of Israel made one final attempt at creating an independent state by siding with the Sassanid Empire against the Byzantine Empire in 614 AD. However, the Sassanid Empire turned against them in 617 AD, after it gained control of Jerusalem with their help. The Byzantine Empire then came into the land of Israel with an even larger army to retake Jerusalem in 622 AD. The Sassanid Empire decided to end the fighting in 628 AD, and gave Jerusalem back to the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine Empire then destroyed the Jewish army in 630 AD.
When the Arab Caliphates came to take control of the land of Israel in 636 AD, there was no Jewish army present to either aid them or to resist them.
There was a small Jewish army formed to aid the Arab Caliphates in resisting the Crusaders taking control of the land of Israel in 1099 AD, but it only served to irritate the Crusaders, without even really impeding their invasion.
There was no Jewish army at all in the land of Israel when the Ayyubid Sultanate took control in 1187 AD. The same was true when the Mamluk Sultanate invaded to take control in 1260 AD. There was also no Jewish army involved when the Ottoman Empire took control in 1517 AD.
Almost four hundred years later, there still had not been a strong Jewish military in the land of Israel since the Romans destroyed Judaea in 135 AD. However, many Jews in the Diaspora did distinguish themselves for their military skills in places like modern China, Iran, Yemen, Russia, Mali, Europe, and the United States during this long period.
This began to change in 1907 AD when Ashkenazi Jews formed Bar-Giori, named after one of the leaders of the Great Revolt, as the first Jewish self-defense organization in the land of Israel since the Jews had tried to throw off the yoke of the Romans in 350 AD. In 1909 AD, Bar-Giori was disbanded by these Ashkenazi Jews to form HaShomer in order to provide self-defense against bands of Arab thugs in a much wider area. HaShomer also made the first effort of Jews in the land of Israel to manufacture their own weapons since 350 AD.
Then World War I came.
Ashkenazi Jews who emigrated from various countries to the land of Israel went to Alexandria Egypt, and volunteered to form a Jewish unit of the British army to help fight against the Ottoman Empire in the land of Israel. British law did not allow a British combat unit to be formed that was composed of men who were not part of the British Commonwealth at that time. However, the British General said that he could let them form a mules corp, that would provide support by ensuring that goods were delivered via mules to the front lines. So the 650 member strong Zion Mules Corp was formed in 1915 AD, and led by Captain Trumpeldor as second-in-command, with Lieutenant-Colonel Patterson as first-in-command. (This Christian Zionist is known as the godfather of the IDF today.) This was the first Jewish military unit in the world since 1099 AD.
The Zion Mules Corp soon distinguished itself in the Gallipoli Campaign by delivery water and ammunition to the front lines, despite the constant barrage that the Ottoman army inflicted upon it. After this, the Zion Mules Corp was back called to Alexandria, and disbanded in May of 1916 AD.
Now that they had distinguished themselves in battle, 120 former members of the Zion Mules Corp went to London, where they joined Lieutenant Jabotinsky to serve in Platoon 16 of the 20th Royal Battalion of London. Captain Trumpeldor and Lieutenant Jabotinsky then petitioned for the formation of a Jewish Legion, similar to the French Foreign Legion, composed of Jews from all over the world, for the purpose of fighting the Ottoman Empire in the land of Israel on behalf of Britain.
As a result, British law was changed to allow the Jewish Legion to be formed in August of 1917 AD. Jews from the United States, the land of Israel, England, Canada, Ottoman prisoners of war, and Argentina, joined the former members of the Zion Mules Corp to create the 5,000 member Jewish League. The Jewish League consisted of the 38th through 42nd battalions of the Royal Fusiliers by the time it was finished being created in April of 1918 AD at London.
The Jewish League was then sent to the land of Israel and began fighting against the Ottoman Empire just north of Jerusalem in June of 1918 AD. They then provided indispensable aid in the battle of Megiddo in September of 1918 AD. This brought an end to the occupation of the land of Israel by the Ottoman Empire, and was the first time that a Jewish military unit had won a battle in the land of Israel since 135 AD.
Most of the members of The Jewish League were discharged when the war ended in November of 1918 AD, including David Ben Gurion.
Then the British took control of the land of Israel.
Those who remained with the British Army formed the First Judeans Battalion in 1919 AD. Lieutenant Jabotinsky was discharged from the British Army in September of 1919 AD, so he began training Jews in warfare and the use of small arms in the land of Israel at this time.
Some of the former members of the Jewish League remained in the land of Israel to help in the self-defense efforts against gangs of Arab thugs. Captain Trumpeldor was killed in the defense of Tel Hai from Arab marauders in March of 1920 AD. Lieutenant Jabotinsky was then arrested for his part of leading Jews in self-defense against the Arabs in the Jerusalem Riots in April of 1920 AD, when the British were too slow in restoring order.
Since it had became apparent that the British could not be counted on to defend the Jews from the Arabs, the remaining former members of the Jewish League in the land of Israel joined with the members of Hashomer to form the Hagannah in June of 1921 AD. It served mostly as a larger and stronger organization that filled the same role as Hashomer.
The role of the Hagannah changed when a massacre of unarmed Jews in Jerusalem by Arabs occurred in August of 1929 AD. Arabs attacked and killed hundreds Jews. The one British policeman on duty killed as many of these murderers as possible, but was unable to turn the tide on his own. The British army finally showed up and killed over a hundred Arabs before restoring order.
Since it was apparent that the British army was unable to defend the Jews adequately, the Hagannah was transformed from a self-defense organization into an underground army. The Hagannah began training as an army, gathering weapons as an army, and acting like an army. This was the first independent Jewish army in land of Israel since 350 AD.
However, there was division in the Hagannah over how to best defend the Jews in the land of Israel. Soon a group that advocated more aggressive action was formed in April of 1931 called the Irgun.
In April of 1936 AD, the Arabs began the first phase of the Arab revolts against British rule, partially due to the ever increasing number of Christian Zionists in the British Army. The Irgun responded to this rise in Arab terrorism by beginning a campaign of terrorism against the Arabs.
In September of 1936 AD, Captain Wingate, a staunch Christian Zionist, arrived in the land of Israel, and immediately aligned himself with the Hagannah. The first phase ended the next month.
However, peace was short lived and the second phase of the Arab revolts began in September of 1937 AD. It also lead to the Hagannah providing 50,000 soldiers, ten times the size of the Jewish Legion, to aid the British Army. So in June of 1938 AD, Captain Wingate was given permission to form the Special Night Squads with volunteers from the British Army and the Hagannah. This created the first special forces units of Jews in the land of Israel since at least 135 AD.
These joint British and Jewish special forces units were instrumental in ending this wave of Arab terrorism against the British, but Captain Wingate was relieved of commanding the Special Night Squads, and sent back to Britain for his unwavering Christian Zionism in 1939 AD.
Yet, despite it being obvious by May of 1939 AD, that the Special Night Squads were very effective, assuring that the Arab terrorists were going to be destroyed by the British Army and the Hagannah, the British issued the White Paper in order to make peace with the leadership of the Arab terrorists.
The White Paper effectively went back on every promise that the British had made to the Jews of a national homeland in the land of Israel. This promise had started with the Balfour Declaration of 1917 AD, and was the very definition of the British Mandate that began in 1922 AD.
However, those who later created the independent Jewish special forces in the land of Israel, said that Captain Wingate had taught them all that they knew. The Special Night Forces had learned enough to complete their mission without Captain Wingate, and they helped the British put an end to the Arab Revolts by August of 1939 AD.
As soon as the Arab Revolts ended, the Irgun began conducting a terrorist campaign against the British, in addition to their terrorist activities against the Arabs.
Then came World War II.
The Irgun stopped its operations against the British to aid the British in fighting the Nazis. However, some members wanted to continued their operations against the British, and broke off to form a new criminal mob called the Lehi.
The Lehi basically operated as a criminal gang under the guise of fighting for freedom. They committed many crimes like rape that had no military application.
The Hagannah joined with the British to help defeat the Nazis. They helped the British Army form 15 Jewish battalions in September of 1940 to fight against the Nazis.
They also created a special strike force called the Palmach in May of 1941 to aid the British army in keeping the Nazis and their allies out of the countries near the land of Israel. After the British army secured Egypt in November of 1942, they dismantled the Palmach as an attachment to the British army, so the Palmach returned to the land of Israel to operate directly under the Hagannah.
After the atrocities of the Nazis against the Jews became well known, the British allowed the creation of the Jewish Brigade, similar to the Jewish Legion of World War I, in August of 1942. The Jewish Brigade was allowed to fly the Zionist flag as its battle standard. This was the first Jewish army to operate under a Jewish flag since 135 AD.
Once it became apparent that the Allies were going to win the war, the Irgun resumed waging its war of terror against the British. Then the Lehi assassinated Lord Moyne in November of 1944. The Palmach was dispatched by the Hagannah to aid the British army in crushing the Irgun and the Lehi.
Then World War II came to an end.
It became obvious that the British were still going to follow the White Paper, and break all of their previous promises concerning creating a Jewish homeland in the land of Israel. So in October of 1945, the Hagannah called for a truce with the Irgun and the Lehi, in order to form the Jewish Resistance Movement.
The Hagannah dispatched the Palmach to work with the Irgun and the Lehi, but quickly lost control of the actual operations of the Jewish Resistance Movement. The Palmach focused on its main mission of destroying bridges and other infrastructure needed by the British to continue their occupation. However, when the Irgun bombed the King David Hotel in August of 1946 AD, the Hagannah ended the Jewish Resistance Movement, and pulled the Palmach back under its control.
Around this time, many members of the Jewish Brigade returned to the land of Israel and joined the Hagannah, where they brought in the experience and military professionalism that they had learned as part of the British army. At the same time, the Irgun and the Lehi continued with their terrorism against the British - and their criminal activities against everyone else.
Also, the members of the Irgun and the Lehi had influenced the members of the Palmach to take up their tactics. So the Palmach began a series of retaliation raids, where they launched a war of terror against the Arabs in May of 1947 AD in retaliation for acts of terror that the Arabs had committed.
This lead to the British deciding to leave British Mandate Palestine in November of 1947 AD. The mostly Ashkenazi Jews were going to be forced to fend for themselves against an increasingly hostile Arab population. Every single Arab nation that surrounded them, outnumber them by at least three to one. Also, these Ashkenazi Jews were also a minority in many parts of the land of Israel.
In December of 1947 AD, the Arabs in the land of Israel launched a war of terror against the mostly Ashkenazi Jews. While some Arabs remained loyal to the Ashkenazi Jews, most had not. The intentions of the Arabs after the British pulled out was obvious.
So on May 14, 1948, one day before the British Mandate expired, the Jewish Agency, which was composed almost entirely of Ashkenazi Jews, began dissolving the Hagannah to create the Israel Defense Force (IDF). The IDF was the first military to operate under a Jewish flag in the land of Israel since 135 AD.
Then the War of Israel Independence began.
The very next day, the armies of four Muslim nations. plus many of the remaining Arabs in the land of Israel, attacked Israel. When it did, the IDF was not even fully organized, but still had to integrate all four independent Jewish military groups into a unified military.
The armies of each of these four Muslim countries not only outnumbered the entire population of the newly created country of Israel, but they also had vastly superior weapons. For example, the Syrians had Soviet T-34 tanks, left over from World War II at the beginning of the War of Israel Independence, while the Jews had one tank left over from World War I, and five cannons left over from when Napoleon had fought with the Ottoman Turks at Acre (Akko) in 1799 AD. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) consisted of a bi-plane from World War I, and some hot air balloons from earlier, when the war first began. The IDF had to find ways to smuggle in and manufacture weapons, while still trying to end the infighting between the various Jewish military organizations.
So, the Palmach carried out its last independent operation, when it was sent against the Irgun in June of 1948 AD, before it was absorbed into the IDF as three separate brigades. The main part of the Irgun had been soundly defeated, although there were still branches of the Irgun operating in Jerusalem. The majority of the Irgun terrorists captured by the Palmach were assimilated into the IDF as parts of various units.
Then the Lehi assassinated the UN ambassador for peace in September of 1948 AD. The government of Israel resumed its operations against the Lehi to end their criminal activity. So they issued an ultimatum to the remaining Irgun terrorists and the Lehi criminals - be integrated into the IDF, or be completely destroyed. So after the IDF agreed to grant amnesty to its leaders, all remaining Irgun terrorists and Lehi criminals were absorbed into the IDF. The IDF had became the first fully integrated national Jewish army in the land of Israel since 135 AD.
All during this time, the four invading Muslim nations won most of the battles, but never came close to completing their objective of total annihilation of the Jews. When they failed to destroy Israel, then four other Muslim nations sent them troops to double their strength.
However, these nations soon found out that fighting a fully integrated Jewish military, was not the same as fighting the IDF while it was distracted with dealing with the Irgun and the Lehi. Also, the IDF had also managed to close the technology gap during this time, even though the Arabs still had better weapons and superior numbers.
Still, the IDF began to win and win big in October of 1948 AD. In just a few months, the armies of all eight Muslim nations were soundly defeated. They were beaten so badly, and put to such shame by the Jews, that they call the War of Israel Independence, "al-Nakba " (literally "The Castastrophe") to this day.
One by one, the four attacking Muslim nations sued for peace, starting with Egypt in February of 1949 AD, and ending with Syria in July of 1949 AD. This was the first war that a fully integrated Jewish army under the flag of Israel had won in the land of Israel, since the Maccabees had defeated the Seleucid Empire in 160 BC.
Then the military of Israel grew to be really strong.
Since that time, Israel has been attacked over fifty times by these same Arab nations, and by some of the Arabs who had moved to the land of Israel to benefit from the improvements made by the Jews, but then turned on them. (The descendants of the Arabs who remained loyal to the Jews in the War of Israel Independence still make up over one fifth of the citizens of Israel today.)
Israel has survived all these wars of extermination waged by the Arabs, and even expanded their borders in some cases. These wars are won in part due to unlikely sets of circumstances favoring Israel in each war, like freak sandstorms that expose all of the land mines laid by their enemies. In fact, West Point refuses to teach the strategy of Israel to win wars in its war college for General Officer candidates, because the circumstances that bring about victory are impossible to purposely duplicate on the battle field. There is nothing natural about the success of Israel in war.
Today the IDF is ranked by many military evaluation organizations as the most powerful military in the Middle East, and in the top ten for the entire world. None of these organizations rate the IDF below third most powerful military in the Middle East, or below the top fifteen militaries in the world. The IDF is rank by almost all as number one in effective use of its force.
All of them rank the IAF as the most powerful air force in the Middle East, and one of the most powerful in the world. The IAF is ranked as the most powerful air force on a plane for plane basis in the world. The majority of kills by the F-15 Eagle have been made by the IAF.
The IDF special forces are considered to be one of the top ten in the world on every list composed by special forces experts.
The IDF has developed some of the most advance weaponry on the planet. It often buys top-of-the-line US military equipment, and then upgrades it considerably. It has worked with the US in a mutually beneficial manner in developing some of the most sophisticated military equipment on Earth. Also, it is thought to have one of the largest nuclear arsenals on Earth, even though the official position of the IDF is nuclear ambiguity. The IDF is ranked in the top ten militaries in lists that consider weapons of mass destruction, like nuclear bombs, as well as conventional weapons.
The IDF is also considered one of the most ethical militaries in the world. The ethical code of the IDF - The IDF Spirit - might be the finest military ethical code in the world. The IDF has a no nonsense policy of zero tolerance for the terrorist and criminal activity among its ranks, that were the hallmarks of the Irgun and the Lehi.
The IDF frequently puts members of the IDF in danger, just to avoid taking collateral damage of Muslim civilians, when fighting Muslim terrorists, who use other Muslims as human shields to carry out their attacks. It seeks to avoid war when possible, but when forced to fight, it seeks to win wars quickly and decisively, to minimize loss of human lives - even the lives of their enemies. It is strong enough to be able to afford to show mercy.
The military of Israel has been resurrected from the dead as one of the strongest militaries in the world.
The impossible has happened.
How could have all of this happened?

The Father of Truth has brought catastrophe to the enemies of the Jews in the land of Israel, and put them to shame (Psalm 44:3-7). He has bought the land of Israel back for the Jewish people through many wars (Ezekiel 38:8).
The Father of Truth has shielded the army of Israel from defeat by extraordinary circumstances (Deuteronomy 33:29). He has been the real Israel Defense Force (Psalm 89:18).
The Father of Truth does not just want to make the impossible happen concerning the protection of Israel, but He wants to make the impossible happen concerning your protection. He wants you to come into the House of Truth, and be trained to defeat the enemy of your soul.
Like the military of Israel, you have enemies that seek to do you harm (Matthew 5:44). Your real enemies are not people, but the Father of Lies (HaShatan aka Satan Aka The Devil) and his army of Spirits of Lies (devils aka demons aka unclean spirits aka gods), who manipulate people through their lies (Ephesians 6:10-12).
Like the military of Israel, you are engaged in a war of survival (Romans 7:22-24). The desires of your own flesh war against your soul (1 Peter 2:11).
Like the military of Israel, you can be shielded from defeat. The Man of Truth (Yeshua HaMashiach aka Jesus Christ) was sent to save you from your enemies (Luke 1:70-72). Victory over the Enemy is certain for everyone who comes into the House of Truth (Luke 10:18-20). The Captain of your salvation has already won the war for everyone who comes into the House of Truth (Hebrews 2:9-11).
Like the military of Israel, you will be given mighty weapons to fight this war (2 Corinthians 10:3-6). You will be given armor and weapons that are superior to those of the Enemy (Ephesians 6:13-17). You will be given a weapon that is able to destroy every defense of the Enemy (Hebrews 4:12). You will be taught how to win this war in the House of Truth (1 Timothy 1:18-20). You will be taught how to be a soldier in the House of Truth (2 Timothy 2:2-4). The Enemy will flee from you when you learn to obey the orders of the Father of Truth (James 4:6-8).
Like the military of Israel, you cannot be on the side of the Enemy, and avoid being destroyed with the Enemy (Matthew 13:38-40). Everyone who will not be ruled by the Man of Truth will be destroyed (Luke 19:27). Everyone who does not come into the House of Truth belongs to the Enemy (Acts 13:10).
Like the military of Israel, when you come into the House of Truth, some of those closest to you will become your enemies (Matthew 10:34-36). You cannot be friends with the Enemy and be friends with the Father of Truth (James 4:4-5). You must fight the Enemy all the days of your life, so that you will not be destroyed (1 Peter 5:8-9).
Like the military of Israel, you can learn to live without fearing your enemies (Luke 1:73-75). The Father of Truth turns everyone, who comes into the House of Truth, from being His enemy to His friend (Romans 5:8-10). He saves everyone, who comes into the House of Truth by following the orders of the Man of Truth, because they believe that the Father of Truth raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). He rescues those, who come into the House of Truth, from the air force of the Enemy (Ephesians 2:1-3). Those who remain in the House of Truth, will one day come with the Man of Truth to destroy the Enemy, as the real Israel Air Force (Revelation 19:11-14)!

The Sassanid Empire decided to end the fighting in 628 AD, and gave Jerusalem back to the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine Empire then destroyed the Jewish army in 630 AD.
When the Arab Caliphates came to take control of the land of Israel in 636 AD, there was no Jewish army present to either aid them or to resist them.
There was a small Jewish army formed to aid the Arab Caliphates in resisting the Crusaders taking control of the land of Israel in 1099 AD, but it only served to irritate the Crusaders, without even really impeding their invasion.
There was no Jewish army at all in the land of Israel when the Ayyubid Sultanate took control in 1187 AD. The same was true when the Mamluk Sultanate invaded to take control in 1260 AD. There was also no Jewish army involved when the Ottoman Empire took control in 1517 AD.
Almost four hundred years later, there still had not been a strong Jewish military in the land of Israel since the Romans destroyed Judaea in 135 AD. However, many Jews in the Diaspora did distinguish themselves for their military skills in places like modern China, Iran, Yemen, Russia, Mali, Europe, and the United States during this long period.
This began to change in 1907 AD when Ashkenazi Jews formed Bar-Giori, named after one of the leaders of the Great Revolt, as the first Jewish self-defense organization in the land of Israel since the Jews had tried to throw off the yoke of the Romans in 350 AD. In 1909 AD, Bar-Giori was disbanded by these Ashkenazi Jews to form HaShomer in order to provide self-defense against bands of Arab thugs in a much wider area. HaShomer also made the first effort of Jews in the land of Israel to manufacture their own weapons since 350 AD.
Then World War I came.
Ashkenazi Jews who emigrated from various countries to the land of Israel went to Alexandria Egypt, and volunteered to form a Jewish unit of the British army to help fight against the Ottoman Empire in the land of Israel. British law did not allow a British combat unit to be formed that was composed of men who were not part of the British Commonwealth at that time. However, the British General said that he could let them form a mules corp, that would provide support by ensuring that goods were delivered via mules to the front lines. So the 650 member strong Zion Mules Corp was formed in 1915 AD, and led by Captain Trumpeldor as second-in-command, with Lieutenant-Colonel Patterson as first-in-command. (This Christian Zionist is known as the godfather of the IDF today.) This was the first Jewish military unit in the world since 1099 AD.
The Zion Mules Corp soon distinguished itself in the Gallipoli Campaign by delivery water and ammunition to the front lines, despite the constant barrage that the Ottoman army inflicted upon it. After this, the Zion Mules Corp was back called to Alexandria, and disbanded in May of 1916 AD.
Now that they had distinguished themselves in battle, 120 former members of the Zion Mules Corp went to London, where they joined Lieutenant Jabotinsky to serve in Platoon 16 of the 20th Royal Battalion of London. Captain Trumpeldor and Lieutenant Jabotinsky then petitioned for the formation of a Jewish Legion, similar to the French Foreign Legion, composed of Jews from all over the world, for the purpose of fighting the Ottoman Empire in the land of Israel on behalf of Britain.
As a result, British law was changed to allow the Jewish Legion to be formed in August of 1917 AD. Jews from the United States, the land of Israel, England, Canada, Ottoman prisoners of war, and Argentina, joined the former members of the Zion Mules Corp to create the 5,000 member Jewish League. The Jewish League consisted of the 38th through 42nd battalions of the Royal Fusiliers by the time it was finished being created in April of 1918 AD at London.
The Jewish League was then sent to the land of Israel and began fighting against the Ottoman Empire just north of Jerusalem in June of 1918 AD. They then provided indispensable aid in the battle of Megiddo in September of 1918 AD. This brought an end to the occupation of the land of Israel by the Ottoman Empire, and was the first time that a Jewish military unit had won a battle in the land of Israel since 135 AD.
Most of the members of The Jewish League were discharged when the war ended in November of 1918 AD, including David Ben Gurion.
Then the British took control of the land of Israel.
Those who remained with the British Army formed the First Judeans Battalion in 1919 AD. Lieutenant Jabotinsky was discharged from the British Army in September of 1919 AD, so he began training Jews in warfare and the use of small arms in the land of Israel at this time.
Some of the former members of the Jewish League remained in the land of Israel to help in the self-defense efforts against gangs of Arab thugs. Captain Trumpeldor was killed in the defense of Tel Hai from Arab marauders in March of 1920 AD. Lieutenant Jabotinsky was then arrested for his part of leading Jews in self-defense against the Arabs in the Jerusalem Riots in April of 1920 AD, when the British were too slow in restoring order.
Since it had became apparent that the British could not be counted on to defend the Jews from the Arabs, the remaining former members of the Jewish League in the land of Israel joined with the members of Hashomer to form the Hagannah in June of 1921 AD. It served mostly as a larger and stronger organization that filled the same role as Hashomer.
The role of the Hagannah changed when a massacre of unarmed Jews in Jerusalem by Arabs occurred in August of 1929 AD. Arabs attacked and killed hundreds Jews. The one British policeman on duty killed as many of these murderers as possible, but was unable to turn the tide on his own. The British army finally showed up and killed over a hundred Arabs before restoring order.
Since it was apparent that the British army was unable to defend the Jews adequately, the Hagannah was transformed from a self-defense organization into an underground army. The Hagannah began training as an army, gathering weapons as an army, and acting like an army. This was the first independent Jewish army in land of Israel since 350 AD.
However, there was division in the Hagannah over how to best defend the Jews in the land of Israel. Soon a group that advocated more aggressive action was formed in April of 1931 called the Irgun.
In April of 1936 AD, the Arabs began the first phase of the Arab revolts against British rule, partially due to the ever increasing number of Christian Zionists in the British Army. The Irgun responded to this rise in Arab terrorism by beginning a campaign of terrorism against the Arabs.
In September of 1936 AD, Captain Wingate, a staunch Christian Zionist, arrived in the land of Israel, and immediately aligned himself with the Hagannah. The first phase ended the next month.
However, peace was short lived and the second phase of the Arab revolts began in September of 1937 AD. It also lead to the Hagannah providing 50,000 soldiers, ten times the size of the Jewish Legion, to aid the British Army. So in June of 1938 AD, Captain Wingate was given permission to form the Special Night Squads with volunteers from the British Army and the Hagannah. This created the first special forces units of Jews in the land of Israel since at least 135 AD.
These joint British and Jewish special forces units were instrumental in ending this wave of Arab terrorism against the British, but Captain Wingate was relieved of commanding the Special Night Squads, and sent back to Britain for his unwavering Christian Zionism in 1939 AD.
Yet, despite it being obvious by May of 1939 AD, that the Special Night Squads were very effective, assuring that the Arab terrorists were going to be destroyed by the British Army and the Hagannah, the British issued the White Paper in order to make peace with the leadership of the Arab terrorists.
The White Paper effectively went back on every promise that the British had made to the Jews of a national homeland in the land of Israel. This promise had started with the Balfour Declaration of 1917 AD, and was the very definition of the British Mandate that began in 1922 AD.
However, those who later created the independent Jewish special forces in the land of Israel, said that Captain Wingate had taught them all that they knew. The Special Night Forces had learned enough to complete their mission without Captain Wingate, and they helped the British put an end to the Arab Revolts by August of 1939 AD.
As soon as the Arab Revolts ended, the Irgun began conducting a terrorist campaign against the British, in addition to their terrorist activities against the Arabs.
Then came World War II.
The Irgun stopped its operations against the British to aid the British in fighting the Nazis. However, some members wanted to continued their operations against the British, and broke off to form a new criminal mob called the Lehi.
The Lehi basically operated as a criminal gang under the guise of fighting for freedom. They committed many crimes like rape that had no military application.
The Hagannah joined with the British to help defeat the Nazis. They helped the British Army form 15 Jewish battalions in September of 1940 to fight against the Nazis.
They also created a special strike force called the Palmach in May of 1941 to aid the British army in keeping the Nazis and their allies out of the countries near the land of Israel. After the British army secured Egypt in November of 1942, they dismantled the Palmach as an attachment to the British army, so the Palmach returned to the land of Israel to operate directly under the Hagannah.
After the atrocities of the Nazis against the Jews became well known, the British allowed the creation of the Jewish Brigade, similar to the Jewish Legion of World War I, in August of 1942. The Jewish Brigade was allowed to fly the Zionist flag as its battle standard. This was the first Jewish army to operate under a Jewish flag since 135 AD.
Once it became apparent that the Allies were going to win the war, the Irgun resumed waging its war of terror against the British. Then the Lehi assassinated Lord Moyne in November of 1944. The Palmach was dispatched by the Hagannah to aid the British army in crushing the Irgun and the Lehi.
Then World War II came to an end.
It became obvious that the British were still going to follow the White Paper, and break all of their previous promises concerning creating a Jewish homeland in the land of Israel. So in October of 1945, the Hagannah called for a truce with the Irgun and the Lehi, in order to form the Jewish Resistance Movement.
The Hagannah dispatched the Palmach to work with the Irgun and the Lehi, but quickly lost control of the actual operations of the Jewish Resistance Movement. The Palmach focused on its main mission of destroying bridges and other infrastructure needed by the British to continue their occupation. However, when the Irgun bombed the King David Hotel in August of 1946 AD, the Hagannah ended the Jewish Resistance Movement, and pulled the Palmach back under its control.
Around this time, many members of the Jewish Brigade returned to the land of Israel and joined the Hagannah, where they brought in the experience and military professionalism that they had learned as part of the British army. At the same time, the Irgun and the Lehi continued with their terrorism against the British - and their criminal activities against everyone else.
Also, the members of the Irgun and the Lehi had influenced the members of the Palmach to take up their tactics. So the Palmach began a series of retaliation raids, where they launched a war of terror against the Arabs in May of 1947 AD in retaliation for acts of terror that the Arabs had committed.
This lead to the British deciding to leave British Mandate Palestine in November of 1947 AD. The mostly Ashkenazi Jews were going to be forced to fend for themselves against an increasingly hostile Arab population. Every single Arab nation that surrounded them, outnumber them by at least three to one. Also, these Ashkenazi Jews were also a minority in many parts of the land of Israel.
In December of 1947 AD, the Arabs in the land of Israel launched a war of terror against the mostly Ashkenazi Jews. While some Arabs remained loyal to the Ashkenazi Jews, most had not. The intentions of the Arabs after the British pulled out was obvious.
So on May 14, 1948, one day before the British Mandate expired, the Jewish Agency, which was composed almost entirely of Ashkenazi Jews, began dissolving the Hagannah to create the Israel Defense Force (IDF). The IDF was the first military to operate under a Jewish flag in the land of Israel since 135 AD.
Then the War of Israel Independence began.
The very next day, the armies of four Muslim nations. plus many of the remaining Arabs in the land of Israel, attacked Israel. When it did, the IDF was not even fully organized, but still had to integrate all four independent Jewish military groups into a unified military.
The armies of each of these four Muslim countries not only outnumbered the entire population of the newly created country of Israel, but they also had vastly superior weapons. For example, the Syrians had Soviet T-34 tanks, left over from World War II at the beginning of the War of Israel Independence, while the Jews had one tank left over from World War I, and five cannons left over from when Napoleon had fought with the Ottoman Turks at Acre (Akko) in 1799 AD. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) consisted of a bi-plane from World War I, and some hot air balloons from earlier, when the war first began. The IDF had to find ways to smuggle in and manufacture weapons, while still trying to end the infighting between the various Jewish military organizations.
So, the Palmach carried out its last independent operation, when it was sent against the Irgun in June of 1948 AD, before it was absorbed into the IDF as three separate brigades. The main part of the Irgun had been soundly defeated, although there were still branches of the Irgun operating in Jerusalem. The majority of the Irgun terrorists captured by the Palmach were assimilated into the IDF as parts of various units.
Then the Lehi assassinated the UN ambassador for peace in September of 1948 AD. The government of Israel resumed its operations against the Lehi to end their criminal activity. So they issued an ultimatum to the remaining Irgun terrorists and the Lehi criminals - be integrated into the IDF, or be completely destroyed. So after the IDF agreed to grant amnesty to its leaders, all remaining Irgun terrorists and Lehi criminals were absorbed into the IDF. The IDF had became the first fully integrated national Jewish army in the land of Israel since 135 AD.
All during this time, the four invading Muslim nations won most of the battles, but never came close to completing their objective of total annihilation of the Jews. When they failed to destroy Israel, then four other Muslim nations sent them troops to double their strength.
However, these nations soon found out that fighting a fully integrated Jewish military, was not the same as fighting the IDF while it was distracted with dealing with the Irgun and the Lehi. Also, the IDF had also managed to close the technology gap during this time, even though the Arabs still had better weapons and superior numbers.
Still, the IDF began to win and win big in October of 1948 AD. In just a few months, the armies of all eight Muslim nations were soundly defeated. They were beaten so badly, and put to such shame by the Jews, that they call the War of Israel Independence, "al-Nakba " (literally "The Castastrophe") to this day.
One by one, the four attacking Muslim nations sued for peace, starting with Egypt in February of 1949 AD, and ending with Syria in July of 1949 AD. This was the first war that a fully integrated Jewish army under the flag of Israel had won in the land of Israel, since the Maccabees had defeated the Seleucid Empire in 160 BC.
Then the military of Israel grew to be really strong.
Since that time, Israel has been attacked over fifty times by these same Arab nations, and by some of the Arabs who had moved to the land of Israel to benefit from the improvements made by the Jews, but then turned on them. (The descendants of the Arabs who remained loyal to the Jews in the War of Israel Independence still make up over one fifth of the citizens of Israel today.)
Israel has survived all these wars of extermination waged by the Arabs, and even expanded their borders in some cases. These wars are won in part due to unlikely sets of circumstances favoring Israel in each war, like freak sandstorms that expose all of the land mines laid by their enemies. In fact, West Point refuses to teach the strategy of Israel to win wars in its war college for General Officer candidates, because the circumstances that bring about victory are impossible to purposely duplicate on the battle field. There is nothing natural about the success of Israel in war.
Today the IDF is ranked by many military evaluation organizations as the most powerful military in the Middle East, and in the top ten for the entire world. None of these organizations rate the IDF below third most powerful military in the Middle East, or below the top fifteen militaries in the world. The IDF is rank by almost all as number one in effective use of its force.
All of them rank the IAF as the most powerful air force in the Middle East, and one of the most powerful in the world. The IAF is ranked as the most powerful air force on a plane for plane basis in the world. The majority of kills by the F-15 Eagle have been made by the IAF.
The IDF special forces are considered to be one of the top ten in the world on every list composed by special forces experts.
The IDF has developed some of the most advance weaponry on the planet. It often buys top-of-the-line US military equipment, and then upgrades it considerably. It has worked with the US in a mutually beneficial manner in developing some of the most sophisticated military equipment on Earth. Also, it is thought to have one of the largest nuclear arsenals on Earth, even though the official position of the IDF is nuclear ambiguity. The IDF is ranked in the top ten militaries in lists that consider weapons of mass destruction, like nuclear bombs, as well as conventional weapons.
The IDF is also considered one of the most ethical militaries in the world. The ethical code of the IDF - The IDF Spirit - might be the finest military ethical code in the world. The IDF has a no nonsense policy of zero tolerance for the terrorist and criminal activity among its ranks, that were the hallmarks of the Irgun and the Lehi.
The IDF frequently puts members of the IDF in danger, just to avoid taking collateral damage of Muslim civilians, when fighting Muslim terrorists, who use other Muslims as human shields to carry out their attacks. It seeks to avoid war when possible, but when forced to fight, it seeks to win wars quickly and decisively, to minimize loss of human lives - even the lives of their enemies. It is strong enough to be able to afford to show mercy.
The military of Israel has been resurrected from the dead as one of the strongest militaries in the world.
The impossible has happened.
How could have all of this happened?

The Father of Truth has brought a mighty army back to life in the land of Israel, after it had been dead for about 1800 years (Ezekiel 37:9-14).
The Father of Truth has arranged for the people of Israel to be taught how to wage war successfully in the land of Israel (Psalm 144:1). He has raised up the military of the people of Israel in the land of Israel as a mighty weapon (Zechariah 9:13).
The Father of Truth has caused the IDF to fly upon the shoulders of the Palestinians (Philistines) in Gaza (Isaiah 11:14). He has caused the IDF to fly the F-15 Eagle against Jordan in war (Jeremiah 48:40). He has caused the IDF to strike fear in Jordan by flying the F-15 Eagle (Jeremiah 49:22).
The Father of Truth has brought catastrophe to the enemies of the Jews in the land of Israel, and put them to shame (Psalm 44:3-7). He has bought the land of Israel back for the Jewish people through many wars (Ezekiel 38:8).
The Father of Truth has shielded the army of Israel from defeat by extraordinary circumstances (Deuteronomy 33:29). He has been the real Israel Defense Force (Psalm 89:18).
The Father of Truth does not just want to make the impossible happen concerning the protection of Israel, but He wants to make the impossible happen concerning your protection. He wants you to come into the House of Truth, and be trained to defeat the enemy of your soul.
Like the military of Israel, you have enemies that seek to do you harm (Matthew 5:44). Your real enemies are not people, but the Father of Lies (HaShatan aka Satan Aka The Devil) and his army of Spirits of Lies (devils aka demons aka unclean spirits aka gods), who manipulate people through their lies (Ephesians 6:10-12).
Like the military of Israel, you are engaged in a war of survival (Romans 7:22-24). The desires of your own flesh war against your soul (1 Peter 2:11).
Like the military of Israel, you can be shielded from defeat. The Man of Truth (Yeshua HaMashiach aka Jesus Christ) was sent to save you from your enemies (Luke 1:70-72). Victory over the Enemy is certain for everyone who comes into the House of Truth (Luke 10:18-20). The Captain of your salvation has already won the war for everyone who comes into the House of Truth (Hebrews 2:9-11).
Like the military of Israel, you will be given mighty weapons to fight this war (2 Corinthians 10:3-6). You will be given armor and weapons that are superior to those of the Enemy (Ephesians 6:13-17). You will be given a weapon that is able to destroy every defense of the Enemy (Hebrews 4:12). You will be taught how to win this war in the House of Truth (1 Timothy 1:18-20). You will be taught how to be a soldier in the House of Truth (2 Timothy 2:2-4). The Enemy will flee from you when you learn to obey the orders of the Father of Truth (James 4:6-8).
Like the military of Israel, you cannot be on the side of the Enemy, and avoid being destroyed with the Enemy (Matthew 13:38-40). Everyone who will not be ruled by the Man of Truth will be destroyed (Luke 19:27). Everyone who does not come into the House of Truth belongs to the Enemy (Acts 13:10).
Like the military of Israel, when you come into the House of Truth, some of those closest to you will become your enemies (Matthew 10:34-36). You cannot be friends with the Enemy and be friends with the Father of Truth (James 4:4-5). You must fight the Enemy all the days of your life, so that you will not be destroyed (1 Peter 5:8-9).
Like the military of Israel, you can learn to live without fearing your enemies (Luke 1:73-75). The Father of Truth turns everyone, who comes into the House of Truth, from being His enemy to His friend (Romans 5:8-10). He saves everyone, who comes into the House of Truth by following the orders of the Man of Truth, because they believe that the Father of Truth raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). He rescues those, who come into the House of Truth, from the air force of the Enemy (Ephesians 2:1-3). Those who remain in the House of Truth, will one day come with the Man of Truth to destroy the Enemy, as the real Israel Air Force (Revelation 19:11-14)!
