Hostile Takeover

What was the greatest hostile takeover in history?

One of the most famous hostile takeovers in US history was the takeover of the Marland Oil Company.  The story of this hostile takeover teaches a lesson that everyone needs to learn.

E. W. Marland had moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma completely broke in 1908.  That year same year he created the 101 Ranch Oil Company.  By 1920 his assets were worth 85 million dollars which would be the equivalent value of almost 1 billion dollars in 2013.  He then proceeded to consolidate all of his holding into a new oil company called the Marland Oil Company.  The Marland Oil Company grew to control about 10% of the world's oil, approximately the same amount as the country of Saudi Arab in 2012, making E. W. Marland even richer.  He proceeded to build his famous 55 room, 4 story mansion, that had more than 43,000 square feet of living space, called "The Palace of the Prairie" in Ponca City.  He commissioned and paid for the Pioneer Woman statue to commemorate the pioneer women that settled the Great Plains.  E. W. Marland lived in a paradise that few have experienced.

However, in 1928 he lost control of the company that he had built from scratch in a hostile takeover.  He then proceeded to lose his income. Then he lost his home.  Soon he found himself completely broke.  His paradise was lost and is now only remembered as a story from long ago.

How did E.W. Marland lose everything?

First he did not recognize the enemy.  Men like J.P. Morgan Jr. were not oilmen like himself but rather financiers.  While oilmen had been focused on getting oil out of the ground and refined to help people with their transportation needs, the focus of financiers was to gain control of other people by lending them money.  Men like J.P. Morgan Jr. were crafty so he probably did not talk directly to E. W. Marland.  Instead he  probably got control of people that E. W. Marland trusted so that E. W. Marland would not see the danger.

Next he listened to the voice of the enemy.  He had built his oil empire by continuing to keep his debt low.  He was persuaded by those were under the control of J.P. Morgan Jr. to borrow a lot of money so he could experience a rapid expansion in power.

Lastly, he gave control to the enemy.  Since he had kept the debt low, the Marland Oil Company did not have the money for a rapid expansion.  So in 1922, the Marland Oil Company took out a massive loan from J.P Morgan and company to finance a rapid expansion.  It was not immediately apparent to E. W. Marland but he had put himself under the authority of J.P. Morgan Jr. when he took that loan.  The profits of the Marland Oil Company were down during this expansion phase due to all the expenses associated with expansion and paying off the debt.  This drove down the share price of the Marland Oil Company.  When the share price dropped low enough in 1928,  J. P. Morgan and company called in their loans.  They then used the money to buy a controlling interest in the Marland Oil Company which was naturally in the red at this point.  J.P. Morgan Jr. took control of the company that had been created by  E.W. Marland.  This change in control affected every one in the family of E. W. Marland including his descendants.  This change in control affected the entire Marland Oil Company to the point that it was also broken.

This was not the first hostile takeover nor was it the largest.  It pales in comparison to the original hostile takeover.

The Father of Truth (YHVH aka God aka THE LORD), the Man of Truth (Yeshua HaMashiach aka Jesus Christ) and the Spirit of Truth (Ruach HaQodesh aka The Holy Spirit aka The Holy Ghost) worked together to create people to control everything in the Earth (Genesis 1:26-27).  They gave people control of all the Earth (Genesis 1:28).

It happened like this:

The Father of Truth started with just one man (Genesis 2:7). The Father of Truth created a paradise for the man to live in (Genesis 2:8-10).  The Father of Truth gave the man a job and warned him what he needed to avoid so he could stay in paradise (Genesis 2:15-17).  The Father of Truth knew that the man needed a partner to carry out his assignment (Genesis 2:18).  The Father of Truth gave the man a name, Adam, and had Adam examine everyone in his organization so that Adam would understand that he did not have a partner that was suitable to help him to carry out his assignment (Genesis 2:19-20).  The Father of Truth made a partner that was suitable to help Adam carry out his assignment (Genesis 2:21-22).  Adam embraced the partner to form the first partnership and neither partner hid anything from the other (Genesis 2:23-25).  Adam lived in a paradise that no one else has experienced.

However Adam lost control of the company that he started from scratch, the human race, in a hostile takeover (Romans 5:12-14).  Adam lost his income (Genesis 3:18-19).  Adam lost his home (Genesis 3:23-24).  Soon Adam found himself completely broken (Genesis 5:5).  His paradise was lost and is now only remembered as a story from long ago.

How did Adam lose everything?

First he did not recognize the enemy.  While Adam was focused on tending the garden, the Father of Lies (HaShatan aka Satan aka The Devil) was focused on gaining control over people by getting them to disobey the Father of Truth (1 Corinthians 7:2-5).  The Father of Lies is crafty so he did not talk directly to Adam (Genesis 3:1-5).  Instead he got control of someone that Adam trusted so that Adam would not see the danger (1 Timothy 2:14).

Next, he listened to the voice of the enemy.  Adam had kept control of the entire world by obeying the Father of Truth (Genesis 5:2).  Adam was persuaded by his partner who was under the control of the Father of Lies to disobey the Father of Truth (Genesis 3:17) so he could experience a rapid expansion in power.

Lastly, he gave control to the enemy.  Adam disobeyed the Father of Truth (Genesis 3:9-12).  It was not immediately apparent to Adam but he had put himself under the authority of the Father of Lies when he disobeyed the Father of Truth (Romans 6:16).  The Father of Lies took control of the world had been created for Adam (2 Corinthians 4:4). This change in control affected every one in the family of Adam including his descendants (1 Corinthians 15:22).  This change in control affected the entire creation to the point that it was also broken (Romans 8:20-22).

However, for the human race, the story did not end there.  The Father of Truth promised to send a man to take back the human race from the Father of Lies (Genesis 3:15).  The Father of Truth had his own plan to buy back that which was stolen by the Father of Lies through the seed of Abraham (Genesis 28:14). The Father of Lies unwittingly gave control to the Man of Truth when he had the Man of Truth crucified (1 Corinthians 2:7-8).  The Man of Truth was able to pay for the disobedience of the human race because he was never disobedient to the Father of Truth (2 Corinthians 5:21).  The Man of Truth paid the price to redeem the human race when he was crucified by becoming cursed by the Father of Truth in their place (Galatians 3:13).  The Man of Truth had became a man that obeyed the Father of Truth in all things even to the point being crucified (Philippians 2:7-8).  When the Man of Truth became a man he was able to destroy the power of the Father of Lies so the human race could be restored (Hebrews 2:14-15).  The Man of Truth was the Seed of Abraham that made it possible for all people, Jew and Gentile, to be blessed (Hebrews 2:16).  You could say that the Father of Truth used the Man of Truth to pull off His own hostile takeover.  It was the greatest hostile takeover in history!

The Father of Truth does not go back on his word so every man still has to choose to obey Him.  Those that obey His commandments come to live with Him in the House of Truth (John 14:23).  Those that do not obey His commandments do not live with Him in the House of Truth (John 14:24).  Those that want to be saved by coming into the House of Truth must hear the Word of Truth and obey the Gospel (Romans 10:12-17).  Those that do not obey the Gospel will be destroyed by the Father of Truth (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9).  Those that want to be saved must be willing to suffer for obeying the Gospel so they remain in the House of Truth (1 Peter 4:16-19).

When you come into the House of Truth you will receive the free gift of righteousness that the Man of Truth purchased for you (Romans 5:16-18).  You first step into the House of Truth when you make a commitment to obey the Man of Truth in all things because you believe in your heart that the Father of Truth raised him from the dead after he was crucified (Romans 10:9-10).

Come into the House of Truth.
