Christian Music
What is Christian Music according to the Bible?
In colonial times in America, a new style of music appeared. Fiery sermons were delivered all across England and the English colonies in America warning people against this new style of music.
This was no small stirring as it pitted family members against each other. Neither was this controversy brief, for the fiery sermons continued on for more than a hundred years – well after the American Revolutionary War ended and the United States became a separate nation.
What was this music that stirred up such passion that divided communities and congregations? Was it some new style of tavern music that sang about socially taboo subjects?
No, it was the British hymns that Isaac Watts created more than a hundred and fifty years after Martin Luther had created German hymns. He made hymns that were British by replacing German elements with Celtic elements that British people were used to hearing and singing in public houses known as pubs.
This new style of hymn was suitable for reaching people across of the British Isles and in British colonies. These hymns were not only suitable for cathedrals in large cities like London but could also be played in rural congregations using things like bagpipes or fiddles.
Worse than the music, according to the fiery sermons that arose condemning British Hymns, were the lyrics. These hymns contained words from the Renewed Covenant (B'rit Chadashah aka The New Testament)!
Since around the time of Saint Patrick, many in the British Isles had sung out of Psalteries. The Psalteries contained only words from the Psalms found in the Original Covenant (Tanakh aka The Old Testament) set to Celtic music.
As Celtic music and the languages of the British Isles changed over the next twelve hundred years, the music and the words of the Psalteries changed. However, the lyrics continued to be restricted to the words found in the Psalms.
The fiery sermons asserted that only the words of the Psalms were meant to be sang by the Children of Truth (those who obey The Father of Truth because they love Him). They assured their congregations that there were no songs with lyrics other than the Psalms in the Book of Truth (The Bible).
They asserted that there was only psaltery music was found in scripture. They assured their congregations no other type of music is even mentioned in the pages of the Book of Truth.
They accused those of singing the words from any other part of the Book of Truth of dishonoring the Father of Truth (YHVH aka God aka THE LORD). They accused those playing any other kind of music of playing the music of the Father of Lies (HaShatan aka Satan Aka The Devil).
Since then these accusations have persisted with each new form of music that has been sung by congregations or performed by musicians. Thomas Dorsey faced similar accusations when he created Urban Gospel music, and the Jesus Movement people faced them when they dared to plug in an electric guitar to sing about the Man of Truth (Yah'shau aka Yeshua HaMashiach aka Jesus) in Rock songs.
Are these accusations against British Hymns, Urban Gospel, and Christian Rock valid?
Moses (Moishe) and Miriam lead the congregation in singing on the edge of the Red Sea before the first Psalm was written (Exodus 15:1-15). The people of Israel later sang unto the well that the Father of Truth gave them with a song that is not part of the Psalms (Numbers 21:16-18).
The Father of Truth gave Moses a song to teach Israel on the day of his death (Deuteronomy 31:19-22). Moses then spoke the words of this song to Israel (Deuteronomy 31:30). The words of this song are not found in any of the Psalms (Deuteronomy 32:1-44).
After deliverance from the Canaanites, Deborah and Barak sang a song of victory that is not part of the Psalms (Judges 5). Later, the Song of Solomon was written as a book of its own and not as part of the Psalms (Song of Solomon 1:1).
Afterwards, Isaiah (Yeshayahu) sang a song of judgment against the land of Judah that is not part of any Psalm (Isaiah 5:1-6). He also wrote a song that the land of Israel will sing after they are restored that is not recorded in the Psalms (Isaiah 26).
During the Tribulation, the four and twenty elders will sing a new song that is not in the Psalms (Revelation 5:8-10). The Tribulation saints will sing the song of the Man of Truth and Moses that is not found in any Psalm (Revelation 15:2-4).
So, there is no validity to the idea that only the words of the Psalms are to be sung. It is simply not true that there are no other songs with lyrics in the Book of Truth.
Those in the Temple were to spontaneously sing new songs as the Spirit of Truth (Ruach HaQodesh aka The Holy Spirit aka The Holy Ghost) put the words in their mouths (1 Chronicles 25:1-3). They were to sing the Words of the Father of Truth in the house of the Father of Truth (1 Chronicles 25:5-7).
Likewise, the Children of Truth are commanded to sing hymns and spiritual songs along with psalms (Ephesians 5:19). They are to sing these things to cause the Word of Truth to dwell in them (Colossians 3:16).
Miriam and the women played percussion instruments when they sang of their deliverance from the Egyptians (Exodus 15:20-21). Cymbals were played as well when David was brought the Ark of the Covenant from the house of Abinadab (2 Samuel 6:5).
The prophets played pipes as well when they met Saul after Samuel had anointed him king (1 Samuel 10:5). Pipe sets like those of an organ are commanded to be played in praise as well in the psalms (Psalm 150:4).
A trumpet was played when David was brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 61:5). Shofars were played in the Temple (1 Chronicles 15:28).
David had stringed instruments of melody played in the Temple (1 Chronicles 15:16). He also had strings for rhythmic feel and harmony playing in the Temple (1 Chronicles 15:20-21).
So, the predecessor of every modern instrument was used in making music for singing the Word of Truth. There are no restrictions of any kind about how such music is to be played in the Book of Truth.
So, what kind of songs are always acceptable?
When the Man of Truth is lifted up, he draws all types of people to him (John 12:32). This is even true then the Good News is preached for the wrong motives (Philippians 1:15-17).
Those who have the Word of Truth in them are no longer part of this world – even though they are still in it (John 17:14-17). They are to bring the Word of Truth to others (John 17:18-22).
The people of every language must hear the Word of Truth in their own language (Acts 2:6-11). In like manner, these words must be conveyed in a way that is familiar to every ethnic group and culture to be effective (1 Corinthians 9:19-22).
Some of the Children of Truth are to use music to bring the Word of Truth to other people (Matthew 11:16-17). The music that they use must also be familiar to their audience so they can hear the Word of Truth when it is sang (1 Corinthians 14:7-11).
So, any sort of music is acceptable when the words of the Father of Truth are in them. These words found in the Book of Truth cover everything that human beings have to deal with – including things of a sexual nature.
Anything found in the Book of Truth can and should be taught to the Children of Truth in their congregations. Therefore, anything found in the Book of Truth is acceptable for the Children of Truth to sing about.
So, what kind of songs are never acceptable?
The only thing in scripture that would be “the Devil’s music” would be music that was used to promote the agenda of the Father of Lies. The music might sound the same, but its purpose is very different.
This would include music used to worship an idol (Daniel 3:5-7). The Children of Truth must never join in the worship of idols through music (Daniel 3:14-18).
The Father of Lies is the god of this world and opposes the Word of Truth that will end their blindness – even when set to music (2 Corinthians 4:4-6). The Children of Truth must never love secular (of the world) music whose lyrics glorify the things of this world – the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life – that are against the Father of Truth (1 John 2:15-16).
The Children of Truth must never try to be friends with the world by singing secular music because that makes them the enemy of the Father of Truth (James 4:4). The Man of Truth will spit them out if they try to please him by singing about the things of the Father of Truth while also trying to please the world by singing about the things of the Father of Lies (Revelation 3:16-17).
The Children of Truth must never stop singing about the Man of Truth to avoid persecution and gain the things of this world if they do not want to lose their souls (Mark 8:34-37). If they stop singing the Word of Truth like they are ashamed of it, then the Man of Truth will be ashamed to call them his (Mark 8:38).
So, every sort of music is unacceptable when the words of the Father of Lies are in them. These words include everything that the world that worships him glorifies.
So, why then has there been such controversy over Christian music?
Some people worship the Father of Truth in vain because their hearts trust in the traditions that define their culture instead of Him (Matthew 15:8-9). They have put their trust in the culture defined by keeping these traditions for redemption instead of the Man of Truth (1 Peter 1:18-19).
These people are often in the same temporary congregation as the Children of Truth, but they are not part of the eternal congregation of the Man of Truth (Matthew 13:24-30). They might faithfully meet with an Earthly congregation of Children of Truth every week for their entire lives, but they will be destroyed with the wicked after they die (Matthew 13:36-43).
The Children of Truth were called to teach every ethnic group to obey the Man of Truth (Matthew 28:19-20). They were called to bring the Good News to people of every culture (Mark 16:15).
The Children of Truth were called to convert sinners into saints (Acts 26:16-18). They were never called to convert people from one culture to another (1 Corinthians 7:18-20).
However, these false brothers hinder the Children of Truth by teaching that people must convert to their culture to follow the Man of Truth (Galatians 5:6-8). They will not consent to words of the Man of Truth in their pride as they stir up controversy against anything that preaches salvation without adherence to their culture (1 Timothy 6:3-5).
So, these people walk in their traditions instead of the teachings of the Man of Truth (Colossians 2:6-8). They have not died to trusting in their culture and it keeps them from obeying the Man of Truth (Colossians 2:20-22).
So, Christian music is defined by it lyrics and nothing else.
So, there really is no controversy in the Book of Truth about what qualifies as Christian music. The only controversy is rather to choose truth or tradition.
The truth is Rock lead guitar was first played to preach the Gospel in 1938. Rapping was first done in 1946 to teach the Word of Truth.
In fact, the episodic architecture that works so well with creating songs with AI was created by a Praise & Worship band in 2013. The first AI created song to go to number one in any genre was a Christian song in 2025.
Virtually everything in modern music began with those who were looking for new ways to communicate the greatest message of all time. By the time the world discovers one of these things, the Spirit of Truth has already given the Children of Truth new musical ideas to engage people of new generations and new cultures that need to hear the Word of Truth.
So, let the Children of Truth create that doom metal song about the Lake of Fire, because some people are saved by fear (Jude 1:22-23). Let them create music using every type of instrument with great skill in a manner that speaks the Word of Truth to people of every culture, so they might one day stand before the Man of Truth (Revelation 7:9-10).
Let them sing about how everyone can be saved by making the Man of Truth king of their lives when they believe that the Father of Truth raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9-11). Let them sing the Words of Truth with music that matches each culture, because those words are what brings salvation (Romans 10:12-17).
Come into the House of Truth!
